When my first son was born he didn't sleep. Ever. Despite my exhaustion, like a typical mum I was besotted with him and so at ridiculous o'clock one early morning I started to write a story inspired by him, "Charlie Bear Won't go to Sleep" was written. The book became a series of three, with the beautiful illustrations created by my talented Auntie motivating me to keep creating stories for Charlie Bear.
I have since had two more boys-and gotten used to even less sleep. They have however each provided me with their own unique inspiration and I now have a collection of different picture books, some of which I've even tried illustrating myself (I'm no Quentin Blake so I tend to stick to collage). There is constantly a story in my head, an idea in my mind or an outline in my notepad.
My most recent story was inspired by Covid and centres around a Sloth who finds life in lockdown suits him perfectly: we should all be more sloth! I now just need to find the time and talent to illustrate it. Watch this space for updates. x
